La Titaina – North Wind 38
She was built in 1984 by the shipyard Industrial-North-Wind, founded in 1973 in Sant Andreu de la Barca, Barcelona.
Very few units of this model were produced between 1982 and 1987, when the shipyard closed. She is a smaller version of the mythical North Wind 40, well known in the sailing world for her hard structure and a classic shape.
The “38” in the name refers to her length in feet, which is 11.7m. The width is 3.74m (10 ft). She has accommodation for more than 10 souls but we just host 5 people as regular passage to ensure a confortable experience.
La Titaina has permanently one main sail in the 8m mast and a rolling genova at the bow. The engine is a 40 years old Mercedes located right below the helm.
The boat was acquired by Valencia Sailing District in 2021 and the exterior timbers, engine and sails have been refitted. In 2001 the owners went for a full structural refit that gave her a long life (luckily). We also painted the boat with the beautiful blue that makes her unique in our Marina.
Before us she was in the Club Nautico of Valencia with a family that sailed each summer to the Balearic Islands where the Titaina had her home in Palma de Mallorca for her first 30 years. We know that at least once she sailed the Atlantic Ocean till the Caribean Sea.
Sailing on the Titaina is very easy. You will feel secure at the helm with a smooth response and as a passenger you will enjoy a comfortable trip.
We have named her Titaina, after a typical dish of the gastronomy of el Cabanyal, our neighbourhood. Cabanyal for Foodies.
